Hello everyone my name is Alan and my American figure is Henry Ford
I choose him because when I was in high school I took a mechanic class so I learned a little bit about Henry and how he became a successfully man development a car affordable for everybody.
First I would like to know if is anybody here owns a ford or owned a ford in the past? Do you have an idea how the ford company started and where the name came from? Well so be ready because you are going to learn with my presentation about this and more.
Henry ford was born July 30 1863 in Wayne country Michigan, he was the son of Irish immigrant WILLIAM and MARY ford ,his father was a prosperous farmer who always involved him in farm job even Henry never likes to be in a farm and go the school he got graduate from the high school so he quickly became know around the neighborhood for fixing people’s waches. As a young boy ,he constructing his first steam engine (1878) at the age of 16 years he decide to leave his home and search a job in detroit, after that he found a job in a small shop as an apprentice where he learn about the internal combustion engine. After many years he came back to the farmer working a par time in a Westinghouse Engine Company.
· During this time Henry meet his wife Clara Bryan who was her inseparate lady and who support him in all his projects and goals. Five years later Clara will give is unique son Edsel Bryant Ford. Several years later ford and his wife moved back to Detroit where Henry found a job in the Detroit Edison Company working as a mechanic I was later a enginer in charge(job no easy because req.available 24 hours).
· In 1896,Ford invented the Quadricycle a vehicle with a buggy framed mounted on four bicycle wheels with only two forwar speeds and no reverse .this vehicle was a unsuccessfully because was slow running only 20 mph, ugly and difficult to drive so nobody was interesting in buy a no innovative car but this car will give ford popularity and business ventures.
In 1899 Ford left the Edison company to help run the newly formed Detroit automobile company wich produce only a few cars.Ford quit Detroit automobile company and began to build his own racing car who will attract the backers and even partners. After his success he decide to funded the FORD MOTORS COMPANY and build the model “A” witch being sold a few months later beginning in 1903using the first 19 letters of the alphabet to name cars.
In 1907,Henry ford announced his goal for the ford motors company to create “a motor car for the great multitude “At that time the automobiles were expensive custom-made machines. Ford’s engineers took the first step towards this goal by designing the model “T” a simple sturdy car offering no factory options, no even a choice of color.
Henry began with the production of the model T in 1908 and selling this car for $850 each. This car was inexpensive for its day and proved to be reliable and easy to drive. it quickly became very popular and soon ford found he was enable to meet the enormous demand for his car.
So the solution was to invent a moving industrial production line. By installing a moving belt in his factory, that way employees would be able to build a car one piece at a time, instead of one car at a time.
This principle called “Division of labor” allowed workers to focus on doing one thing very well rather than being responsible for a number of task.
Ford found his new system produced cars quickly and efficiently; so efficiently that it considerably lowered the cost of assembling the cars. He decided to pass this saving along to his customers and in 1915 he dropped the price of the model “T” from$850 to $290 that year he sold 1 million cars but when Henry Ford started building the model T on a assembly line, he didn’t just revolutionize the automobile industry he changed the world.
Henry was the founder of the ford motor company and father of the modern assembly line used in mass production. His introduction of the model t revolutionized the transportation in America industry. As sole owner of the ford company he became one of the riches and best know people in the word. Ford and his family spend a good deal of time and money on charitable work. They set up an historical museum in GREENFIELD VILLAGE Michigan and most notable set up the ford foundation witch provides grants for research, education, and development.
From the star, the model “T” ford realized he’d need a more efficient way to produce the car in order to lower the price. He and his team looked at other industries and found four principles that would further their goal INTERCHANGEABLE PARTS,CONTINIUS FLOW,DIVISION OF LABOR AND REDUCED WASTED EFFORT. using interchangeable pieces meant making the individual pieces of the car the same every time .that way any valve would fit any engine, any steering wheel would fit any chassis. This meant improving the machinery and cutting tools to make the parts, but once the machines were adjusted a low skilled labored could operate them, replacing the skilled craftsperson who made the parts by hand.
I would like to tell you some of the interesting facts that I found
--In 1908 the ford company initiated production of the model “T” until 1927 when this car was discontinued in favor of more up-to-date, the company produced and sold about 15 million cars
--In 1896 ford drove his first car and broke a hole in a shop wall.
--he became famous when he made an announcement in January 5,1914 established a minimum wage of $5.00 per day in his factory for an eight hour work day.
--He died on April 7,1947 in Dearborn of a cerebral hemorrhage.
