Hi. My name is Edith and my American Character is John Wayne, they known by some as Duke. The reasons why I chose this character is because I have seen many movies with John Wayne and my favorite movies are The Alamo and The Cowboys. The Alamo it’s about the battle between Mexico and USA, and it’s a true story and The Cowboys have a intrusting story, in this movie John Wayne show the children of school to be a men, giving good examples and showing how to work like the cowboys. However many of these movies are interesting for my husband and I, who loves all of John Wayne ‘s films, some of his films is easy to find on TV that could be the second reason and the last reason is because for my own opinion I think he was an interesting and good-looking. John Wayne was born on May 26, 1907 in the Central Iowa town of Winterset. His name was Marion Robert Morrison, but his parents changed it to Marion Michael Morrison after they decide to name his brother Robert E. Morrison. His parent’s names were Clyde Morrison and Mary Brown. His father was a Pharmacist and his mother was a house-wife. When John Wayne turned 6 years-old, his father had a health problem that required them to move to a warmer climate, so they moved to Southern California; they bought a ranch; however, the ranch failed, and they moved to Glendale, California. In his child hood he worked delivering newspapers and orders from his father pharmacy, also he was truck driver, fruit picker and soda jerk. In school, he was an honor student and a member of an outstanding high school football team. His athletic talent brought him a football scholarship at the University of Southern California, at the time of the second year he broke his ankle and dropped out. While he was at school, he got a job, as other football players did, as a scenery mover at Fox Films. Between 1933 and 1939, he made more then 40 western movies; with the movie “True Grit’, he won a Oscar for his portrayal of a disreputable, one eyed, drunk and old fat man who was federal Marshall called Rooster Cogburn. He came been an actor, director, and producing. He made over 200 films on fifty years. However, he was not impoverished. He lived with his third wife, Pilar Palette Wayne, who was born in Peru, Also Mr. Wayne’s first two marriages, to Josephine Saenz and Esperanza Bauer ,In John Wayne second divorce he had many problems with Esperanza Saenz. Not only did Esperanza want $9,000 a month alimony as opposed to Wayne's offered $900, she asked that a restraining order be placed against him, charging alleged violence.
Wayne said: "I never at any time during our marriage struck my wife . . . I will add that many times I had to protect myself from her temper--I call it ' Many times I had to hold her arms and grab her foot when she was trying to strike or kick me." The preliminary hearing decided in favor of Wayne--he had to pay to Esperanza (his second wife ) $1,100 alimony. She appealed the decision. Esperanza died of a heart attack in 1955. Pilar was his third wife also Latin Americans, He had seven children from his marriages, and more then 15 grandchildren. which On June 11,1979, the date of John Wayne's death, the flame of the Olympic Torch at the Coliseum in Los Angeles was lit to honor his memory. The airport in Orange County, California was renamed shortly after his death to John Wayne Airport. He had four children with Josephine and three with Pilar. John Wayne died for stomach cancer and longs problem on June 11, 1979 at he age of 72. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he replied “feo, fuerte y formal”. Sadly his wishes never carried out because his headstone description is: “Tomorrow is the most important think in life. Come into us all midnight very clean. It perfect when it arrive and it put it self in our hands. It hopes were learnt something from yesterday.
