~Women stopped wearing long dresses with high collars all the time. Movies were made that included drugs, murder, and prostitutes.

~Motion Picture Production Code

3. What are two aspects of movies that the MPPC banned?
~words with sexual meanings (hot, whore, broad, fairy); bedroom scenes with unmarried people; long kisses

4. In what year was the MPA rating system developed?
~1966

5. How much was the fine for directors who did not follow the rules of the MPPC?
~$25,000

6. The MPPDA was considered a “self-regulatory” organization. What does this mean?
~This organization determined their own rules; they regulated themselves.

7. Give two reasons why movies were so popular during the 1930s and 40s.
~the content of movies was good for a wider audience (wholesome for the whole family); a cheap form of entertainment during the Great Depression; people could watch a movie and forget their problems (escape)
